Change italian 'o' pronounciation generally?

I would like to be able to make a general change to the italian vowel 'o', both for small (o) and big (O).
In both cases it should sound like in 'io': io[#iO] - and like this in 'Omberto': Om[#Om]-ber-to[#to].
In very seldom cases the 'o/O'-vowel has a different pronounciation which I can change manually.

I'm not sure I would follow you in saying that it is a good idea.
But it is your choice.
For just a couple of pieces, you could just add a sampa translation, but I suppose that you know that, and how to achieve it.
For some comparable cases, I made a script which adds that mechanically,but that was done for specific syllables. Such a script could take the sampa translation of each syllable, change all "o" in "O" and add that in the lyrics text.
To be most general, and actually it's not too difficult once you understand the structure of the different involved components, would be to create one of a few new "voices".
The voices are .prv files in the Setting/Voices folder. Typically a type of voice (such as "Classical") has two or four files (or Soprano, Tenor, etc).
The process is to take a model for each file of a selected type of voice, edit it and give it a new appropriate name.
The voice files can contain fragment overrides. You would then insert the source lines for fragment +OS (which corresponds to sampa #O) and give it a name of +OI (which corresponds to sampa #o).
And for the rare cases where you would really want a closed #o you could specify in the score the German fragment #+OID.
While you would store your modified voices in Settings/Voices, you would find the base material in the HA product folder, subfolders "Virtual Singer/Voices"; the fragments are all in Virtual Singer/Data/VoiceFragments.vsv

You can create a file for Scripts > Virtual singer > Other languages,
this ensure the file won't be overwritten by HA future updates.
There is a documentation online on how to write the file.
You can then define the fragments to use for some letters or combinations of letters.

This would be a good choice for any language as of the 11th, since these are have control files in (almost) the same format as "Other Languages". And one could create a new language ita-1 which would be an updated copy.
But for the first 10 languages, the structure is different, there are probably some tables inside the HA code.
And to create an ita-1 in the "other language" format, it would need to be created from scratch - and know very well all details of italian pronunciation. That's what I did for "Gallican latin" (and I have it as work in (non-)progress for some other flavours of latin.

I now thought of an alternative - simpler - solution. It implies a copy of italian (as ita-1), but changing only the "italiano.p2f" file which establishes the link between sampa and fragments.
I'll check the idea further tomorrow, it starts to be late for my 80yo brain.
