Question : When
I try to insert a note, an icon appears above the next bar line and the
note is not inserted. Why?
You are in "Editing limited to one bar" mode,
and you are trying to insert a note that goes over a bar change. In this
mode, notes dropped into a bar cannot modify or shift notes in the following
bars.
For example, you cannot, in this mode, drop a
note which carries over to the next bar.
To allow this, switch this mode off in the Options
menu.
Question : How
can I hear the notes I drop into the score?
Go to Configuration>Global Setupand
check the option "Play note while editing"
Question : In my printed
score, the first four bars are on one row, with the next four below
that, and so on. How is this possible with the software ?
You must enter all your bars one after the other,
using the horizontal scroll bar if necessary. When printed, bars will be
reorganized on paper.
Question : How
can I increase the number of bars in my score?
By using the option Edit>Bars>Insert,
but it is quite simple to place a note in a bar after the last bar of your
score.
Question : How
do I insert a triplet ?
Select the icon marked 3:2 in the Notes tool palette,
then insert your note on the score.
By double-clicking on
the appropriate icon, you can select the tuplet value.
Question : How
can I attach ornaments, appoggiatura, grace notes ... ?
Double-click on a note to open its editing
window. You can then define grace notes (appoggiatura), ornaments... attached
to this note.
Question : Some
notes are displayed too close together, but I do not want to resize the
whole bar. Can they be moved away from each other?
Disconnect "automatic spacing" (Options
menu).
Then click on the note with the "Alt"
key held down: you can now move the note, from -100% to +100% of its regular
position.
You can also double-click
on the note and edit the numerical value of its displacement.
Question : I
cannot get two consecutive notes to beam together. What has happened?
Probably these two notes have not got the same stem
direction. Edit one of the note's properties (double-click on it) to
change the stem direction.
Question : I want
a quarter note to be displayed as two tied eighths. How do I do this ?
Double-click on the note to edit its properties.
Choose an "eighth" in the splitting box.
Question : How
do I manage chords with different note lengths ?
In this case, the chord length is considered equal
to its shortest note.
Question : I want
to display the right and left hand of a piano melody on the same staff.
How may I do this?
Only notes with the same stem direction can be beamed
together. Set the stems up for the treble voice notes (right hand) and
down for the left hand.
To do this, deselect automatic beaming in the
"Options" menu, double-click on each note and use the "Stem down" check
box.
You can also use the staff menu (in the staff
margin) option : "Split stem direction". Notes above the given note will
have their stems set "up", and the notes below "down".
You can even, in the same way, split your staff
into two separate staves ("Split staff").
Question : Sometimes,
I cannot click on some symbols. Why?
This can happen in the following situations :
- You try to click a note with an inverted body.
Try to click where the body would be if not inverted.
- You try to click on the second part of a tied
note. Even if drawn as two notes tied together, such a note only produces
one sound, so there is really only one note. Click on the first note of
this group.
- You try to click on a break symbol such as
a section start or end, or a repeat end. Click slightly to the right of
the bar line on the staff to edit all the break symbols at this position.
