Dragomir Draganov Interview

January 30, 2004

Hello, Mr Draganov , thanks for answering some questions. You won the First Prize of the 2th Tune Friendly Contest with your piece " Missing Sun" and we wish first to know who you are.

Myriad: On what kind of hardware are you working ?
DragD: IBM ThinkPad, Pentium III, 693 MHz, 256 MB of RAM

Myriad: What has been your music itinerary ?
DragD: I am interested in music since the age of 6. I took piano lessons for 9 years. I've been composing and studying misuc by myself since then. I had some public performances as teenager. Later the music got less priority for me.

Myriad: Do you play an instrument (or several) ?
DragD: I have played piano some years ago. I haven't touched piano keyboard in four years. I am using the computer instead to satisfy my hunger for creativity. Anyway, I still miss playing the real piano.

Myriad: What are your tastes in matter of music ? You can quote artists or music genres if you want.
DragD: I don't have 'the most favorite...' There are many musicians, composers, singers and bands, which I prefer. I would mention a few (the order doesn't matter): Sting, Genesis, Mariah Carey, Whitney Huston, Vangelis, Michael Jackson, Robby Williams, Alanis Morisette, FSB (an old Bulgarian band). There are hundreds more, which I like for one of two of their songs.

Myriad: More precisely, what are you currently listening to ?
DragD: In this exact moment: Kitaro - "Lady Of Dreams"

Myriad: And what kind of music don't you listen to anymore ?
DragD: I don't  listen to J.M. Jarre anymore. I have never liked to listen to Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Chris de Burg, Red Hot Chili Peppers and some more.

Myriad: If you had to chose a piece to be put into a capsule to be sent to the inhabitants of Alpha Centauri, what would be your choice ?
DragD: I would sent Mariah Carey - "Hero"

Myriad: If you had to be out of the world during a whole year, what are the two albums you would take away with you ?
DragD: If I would be limited only to two albums, I would take none.

Myriad: About the piece which won the contest, what has been the source of your inspiration ?
DragD: Love. When I wrote "Missing Sun", I have been for many months far away from the person I call 'My Sun'.

Myriad : What have been the progress of your composition (technical details will be of interest for the readers) ?
DragD: Unfortunately, not much. The music is pleasure for me but I didn't have much time for pleasures  in the last two years.

Myriad: Do you have an anecdote to recount ? Not necessarily related to your piece, but related to music in general.
DragD: Concert. Tuxedos and evening dresses. The orchestra is playing Beethoven. A man in the audience turns to his neighbor by chair:
"This peace of music is too long. Don't you think so?"
"I think you are too short for it", the response came.

Myriad : What are your goals or your project in relation with music ?
DragD: I don't have serious music goals or projects even I wish to. Apparently, I'll be musician in my next life.

Myriad : Do you have a personal Web site ?
DragD: Yes but it is not music related: www.xmedil.com

Myriad : Do you want to pass an advice or a message to the readers of this interview ?
DragD: Yes, four pieces:
- No one is allowed to judge a music piece, to insist that he (she) is right
and to pretend that only his (her) musical opinion is valid.
- There are no great musicians - there is a music you like or not.
- I would be happy if there was no need to spoil the music with video.
- Take music lessons if you want to be good in mathematics and vice versa.

Myriad : Thank you for having answered these questions.
