A big "YES" from me, too.

But Capella has 3 file formats:
- CAP (old and actual format)
- CapXML (as export, perhaps, as announced, next standard)
So we speek about two (or three?) completely different converters, which means a lot of work.

Nearly all available internet files are CAP-files, on the other hand, if CapXML will be the next standard, it could happen, that the HA-importer (only for CAP) is obsolete before it's finished.

Capella 2004 is now 2 years old and screaming for an update and bugfixes, they integrated now a new server-activation, they raise the prizes now without any official reason (of course, actual users will have to pay more for the new version later...),  I'm sure these are the first steps of an update strategy. And, who knows, maybe we see, in a couple of months, suddenly a new CAP-version.

So I think, it's better to wait with CAP-importers actually, but maybe it's a good idea to realize a CapXML converter first. This would not help HA-users, but maybe very interesting for some of the "250000" Capella-users, who have to pay 98 EUR for a very unsatisfying CapXML to MusicXML converter, and converting is a need, because Capella is more or less a score type writer.

There are some other hundred pros, but I will restrain them for your cons.

I vote YES, I've found some Capella files that may interest me a lot.
I can open them and play them with the free Capella Reader, but no MIDI export, and still no way to import them.

I also vote YES : I've found a couple of such files and apart from opening them in the reader, I was unable to anything with them (certainly not input them into HA)

Yes. Traditional musicians in the alps and Bavaria often offer tunes for download. These are almost exclusively in Capella format - but even elsewhere I have the impression that this format is dominating over the formats from other programs.
In general I think people should use a freely available format (e.g. abc), so that anybody can make use of the data, but unfortunately it this is not the practice. Here an import filter can be of great value.

Now I think with the Capella reader we can print to PDF (using PDFCreator) and I hope the PDF2Music project will handle these PDF very well. This could be a good alternative to an importer that we don't know how long it'll be useful, if the capella format change.

Hello Harmony and Melody friends,

as a long time Capella User I can tell You, there is already a way transferring cap Files to Hamony in the actual Version Capella professional Version 5.2.

The first way is to export the cap-file as standard midi-file, which you can import to Harmony.

The second - more professionel way needs the use of a second programm called Capella media producer.
For this way you first  have to export the cap-file as a capXML file (file format is a compressed variant of musicXML).
In the next Step Capella media Producer converts
the capXML file to musicXLM format, which can be import into hamony assistant with the XML Importer.

To my opinion this way works already very well.
The capella producer WHC say, all future developement will be based on musicXML file-format.

As a conclusion, I can say that there is actually no need to write an extra converter.

Hi
This way may work for Capella users, but what about the Melody/Harmony users who just want to import a score  that they are interested in? I vote "yes" for the importer

Hello,

I know this will not help MA/HA users without Capella to export the common "*.CAP" scores to CapXML, but I found a free Python script, that converts CapXML to MusicXML:  CapToMusic

You can use this script with Python or as a Capella-Plugin. Although it produces more error messages than the commercial converter, the resulting score after import into HA seems to be oK (for me it was less work to edit).
