Title: Lyrics in the way?
Post by Gazza on Jan 3rd, 2018, 5:29pm
Hi

I'm trying to edit my music bar and the lyric lines are getting in the way.

Is there any way around this that doesn't involved constantly moving the lyric line around?

Thanks for help

From what I can see on the screen copy, there are many lyrics lines (so many repeats in the music, too) and the staff area is rather small to house all the lines.
The only way I know of is to move down the small red triangle marked with an "L" so as to clear the staff after enlarging the staff area (use the blue triangle)
However, if you definitely need the lyrics lines where they are currently (to have the "1 a & a & a..." above the staff) you can't edit the notes as the focus is held by the lyrics, not the staff. So, the best way is to move the lyrics as I said, edit the music and finally replace the lyrics
or
deal with the music first on a staff without lyrics and finally change the staff status to "with lyrics" and add the lyrics.

Thanks. Appreciated.

Ideally I only want ONE line of lyrics for a 64 x 1 bar repeat. Is there any way to limit the number of lyric lines?

You can hide all the lines by unchecking "Display Lyric Lines" in the Display Options window for the staff, just so you know.

There are two ways to hide selected unwanted lyrics lines.  The first one is to use the blue triangle at the left of the staff (when Control Handles are displayed) to adjust the staff height.  You can hide all but the first line of lyrics this way.

In your case, however, you will want to use the second method, because you want the visible lyrics line to appear above the staff.  So what you do in this case is to adjust the lyrics so all the lines appear below the staff, and adjust the blue triangle so that they are all accessible.  Then, select the entire staff and right click on one of the lyrics lines that you want to hide.  Click on "Hide line" and that line should vanish.  Repeat for all the lyrics lines you want to hide.  Then, finally, you can put the remaining visible lyrics line where you want it, and adjust the staff height as desired with the blue triangle.

It is a bit cumbersome, this second way, it is true, but this way also gives you the most flexibility.  You can use this method to hide the lyrics for a single bar, or for selected bars, as well.  A little experimentation will show you how it works.

Thanks but I've not been able do any of that!

Never mind. Just one of those things.

Thanks for trying to help.

Bonsoir Gazza, tu peux essayer "Score > Edit Breaks" puis activer "Impose list" et écrire "1,N" dans la liste avec N=le nombre de mesures dans ta partition.
Amistats, Danièl.

But now with 1 as an imposed list the sounds don't output as 64bars!

Tell me if I'm wrong...
The score is built on a single bar which is to be played 64 times. The count for the beats is supposed to appear above the staff and you don't want to have the lyrics lines interfering with the staff when editing the music.

As long as there is one bar, the "text" is rather short. Why not forget about the lyrics and use a text effect for each symbol ?
In the example given, there would be only 6 effects to add... Much faster than moving out the lyrics lines and putting them back in place after editing the music...

Thanks for the idea.

Nice idea. BUT. There's 12 of these bars to a page and 300 pages...

Each page has a different set of top line beats with counts. So I do one bar and copy paste the rest to the other 11. (The lower bar is a different stave, then I merge staves)

I figured the lyric method was easier to copy 12x300 times.
