Hi again

Another problem

I have multiple staves and the top line changes position of 1/4 notes depending on what's one the bottom line.

How can I make  the 1/4 note space evenly please?

I guess the spacing of the quarters depends on the 1/8th notes.
A solution could be to change the engraver's mode (Score>Engraver's mode setup)  and set it to "arithmetical". That way, the notes would be spaced according to their length (i.e. twice as much space for a quarter as for an 1/8th).

For your immediate needs, Bubu's suggestion is probably going to be the most useful, but you might like to know that two commands affect the appearance of the score generally, and it is also possible to adjust the positions of individual notes.

With Engraver Mode on, you can fiddle with the general parameters of note spacing, using "Score > Engraver mode setup."  (If you find a combination that works well, it can be saved.)  The general appearance of all the elements of the score can be altered using "Score > Display setup."    (You can also alter the defaults for these parameters.)  If you haven't already done so, you might find it worthwhile to experiment with these two commands, to get a good idea of what the software can do.

Then, of course, as you probably know, the placement and appearance of individual notes can be fine-tuned, either by double-clicking on a note-head and adjusting notes one by one, or by selecting several and using the command "Edit > Appearance > General."  (Note that certain parameters can be adjusted only note by note.)

Gary, please note that this is by no way an anomaly. It is the way scores have been engraved for centuries, so to speak.

It may be an inconvenience for some readers, so that the alternative of arithmetic spacing (also called "mathematically correct") is present in the most sophisticated music editors.
