First of all to the Myriad team and all users:
Happy holidays and a happy new year!

Let me emphasize at the end of the year what great music programs were created by the Myriad team! Thank you very, very much!

Nevertheless, as a consistent user, who is now in his 18th year (MA=>HA=>+Gold=>+VS), I would like to suggest a few "Christmas wishes" for the next versions. Small wishes, but things that could make it easier for others to work with the HA as well...

[1] Print option:  An input option for a defined number of pages would be great. After changing the percentage scaling, the page number should be displayed. And vice versa: It should also be possible to scale a print to a defined page number.  (Image01)

[2] Create worklists / playlists for file opening
E.g. lists of current arrangements, of compositions or lists of possible pieces for editing or playing. => Saving of this categorized files in assigned directories.
At the moment I have almost 50 files open, which I would like to put in different folders and could open a small selection with a corresponding file list. Analogous to a file list, e.g. in the VLC or other video/music player…

[3] File menu  "Save as".  When saving a file with several open files…
If I want to save a file under a new name this file will be usually saved not in its original directory but in the last accessed one. This provides considerable chaos on the hard disk.

[4] Program start: The HA receives NO focus after loading files!! You have at first to click in the field each time the program is started, e.g. to enable a playback of the last file (space key).
Incidentally, when opening multiple files, these are unfortunately always opened in the reverse order, as they had been edited at last. This should also be changed.

[5] A new button to activate the "Virtual Singer" would be wonderful.

[6] An option for positioning bows: "always above the notes" would be equally great.

[7] Likewise the positioning of Fermata .... above the staff.
Oh, and before I forget: When quantizing with the "staccato" option, the staccato points should be inserted in the same way as the selected settings (for example in the direction of the stem).

[8] An important wish seems to have come true ...
No word wrap right after a text entry. Hooray!

[9] A new tool would be great!  -  A mixture of 'Add' and 'Apply effects, signs, etc. to a note'…
When clicking on a note / pause than apply the selected effects / length / etc. and if clicking on a vacant position => insert a note (with selected effects, if any) or pause. That would be wonderful.   (Image02)

[10] A small request: I never had (in the last 17 years) to change any length of a stem. However, I always accidentally hit this property when I try to click on other things. I would like this option would e.g. only work in conjunction with a button (s = stem),  or better, this option could be turned off completely in the settings.

[11] The positioning of special characters (volumes, etc.) also seems to have improved. Fine.

[12] The course of slurs.
Perhaps an additional option for chords:  If you select the upper notes of a chord the slur is generated over the notes, selecting the lowest note of a chord, then the slur runs below.

[13] Oh yes, and when deleting a note of a chord, its property (e.g. slur) should move to the next note of the chord. Other properties should be valid for all notes of a chord (e.g. staccato or accent).

[14] When working with colored rules...
In the print options it would be nice to have the ability to replace them with black and display their name (as the 1st time).

[15] Display of colors ...
In general, I need the colors for creating rules. For this the standard colors are very important. My wish: Integrate the standard colors in all color selection windows.  The selection from the entire palette can then be made as usual via menu. No shift-key anymore.   (Image03)

[16] Path settings
Here I would still like the possibility to select a path (global settings) for the export of (e.g. wav/mp3) files. The HA always wants to save this in "USER/Myriad Documents/Export/Music Export", but I do not.

[17] After closing the print window (after changing the print options), the screen should be normalized automatically...

[18] When setting numerical values using sliders, the values should be displayed above the scale that the numbers are not covered by the mouse pointer.  (Image 04)

[19] Incidentally, it would also be great if, in the option of being able to change the length of a note, there would be no drop-down menu for the individual note values. It would be better if you could simply select them (analogously to the note tools). A selection would be so much easier.  (Image 05 a/b)

[20] A small wish ... It would be nice, too, if you change the staff height, that the page number would be updated immediately in the status bar.

[21] And my last wish:
A very nice and peaceful Christmas! And a Happy and also peacful New Year!

With best regards

Hi musikus,

I certainly support your items 3 and 16. They are of the same nature, however.
The current behaviour is a problem whenever one changes the file one is working with. "Save as" always proposes the path last used, even in an earlier HA session. While export is even worse, as it does not remember the path last used when that was in an earlier session.

For "save as", all the programs I know (including text and spreadsheed software) propose to save in the original folder.
Export should have an option to save in the source folder, or a subfolder of it.

Ich glaube, dass es noch viel mehr Deutsche hier gibt.
Man sollte vielleicht mehr in deutsch posten.

Hello Andre,

For solving the 'save as' problem I have made a small, simple help.
A script to save files under new version numbers in its original directory.
With a button that calls the script you can save the file at any time with an up-counting version number.
".mys" files are unfortunately not allowed to attach, so  I attach the script code.

It would be nice if this would also be done in the normal 'save as' routine.

Of course, your suggestion would also be an option when exporting,
but here I thought more about the option to make a fixed path entry in the settings.
Both versions at the same time would of course be great.

Best regards
Bernhard

Dear Heniu,

Please excuse me if I do not agree with you.
This is an original French software.
And a very good one!
I would like to write my postings in French. Regrettably, I have never had the opportunity to learn this beautiful language.
So we should limit the postings to as few languages as possible.
French and English are the most ideal ones, even if I have to send French posts through a translator.

Best regards
and also a happy New Year.

I would like applaud when whose language is neither French nor English make the effort to write  in these languages... but actually this isn't always productive.

I have seen posts in these two languages which I totally failed to understand. They could have been the result of an automatic translation.

I think that these tools should mainly be used to translate from a foreign language to one's own, and not the other way round.

I would recommend the following rules:

If you know French or English enough to write directly in these languages (with eventually the use of a dictionary for a couple of words), feel free to do it.

Otherwise, best post in your own language. Let the reader use automatic translators if they need to (for instance, I generally understand a technical question written in German, but needed the help of a translator to understand  the exact meaning of Bernhard's post here, today at 5:51).

But try to have the title of a new thread in English or French, so that people can quickly see if it enters in their interest scope (I will not try to understand a post about tablature or percussion, not because of the language but since I know nothing about these two subjects).

Ideally, start a post or a new thread with a 2-3 lines abstract in English.

Next, it is sometimes useful to know the original country or language of a contributor, since that can also help us to understand.

I agree with Andre
Personally I have generally no trouble understanding German, which was the first foreign language I learnt and practiced for many years. But I have not written anything in German since I left Berlin 25 years ago, I prefer answering in English or French.
Languages is not something you learn once forever. If you don't practice a language regularly you become quickly unable to use it.

Horizontal scrolling is not managed on osx with the magicmouse. Very useful if this native functionality on osx could be implemented in HA. It could permit to scroll a score horizontaly in the linear page mode for instance.

A workaround (osx only) : hold the shift key + vertical or horizontal mouse scroll -> the score will now scroll horizontally!

nb: ctrl key + vertical mouse scroll = zoom the score

under windows : Hold the ctrl key and use your mouse scroll wheel -> the score will scroll horizontally too! (please confirm)
