Saving Score layout for individual instuments?

Hello,
Have been delightfully using MA for some years, but feel the need to move on.. to HA.

I often print scores for different instruments. For any one song, it is usual for some instruments play a lot, others just from time to time, sometimes with partially or completely empty bars. No problem there.

My current practice is to manually adjust bar lengths for each instrument and then print the result for my musicians.

To keep the layouts intact, I then save each complete file under a different name for each instrument, e.g. "My Song1-Flute" or "My Song1-Piano", etc

However, if I need to edit notes etc, I have to go all through the files for each instrument.

is there a way of keeping individual instrument's layouts intact in just one file?

Will HA enable me to do this?

Many Thanks for any help

The HA feature you want is called "Views."  Go to the View menu and click on Edit.  You will be presented with a dialogue that lists all the staves in the score and any views you have already created.

Your best bet is to experiment with this dialogue and see what the various view setup options will produce, but once you have an empty view with the options set properly, it can save you a lot of time to create as many duplicates as you need and only then assign an instrument to each view.  Any view can be set up so that any edits you make in it will be unique to that view, or so that certain or all types of changes will affect other views.

This is a very flexible and powerful feature.

You're very welcome.

And by the way, I forgot to mention that there is an option under File > Print to print all views at once.  Sorry I didn't mention it before, but I tend to use Ctrl-Print exclusively and forget sometimes that the menu command even exists, lol!

There are several other handy options on that drop-down menu, as well.  It might be worth checking out just to know what's available.
