Can't open Finale file

I created a .MUS file on Finale, and am trying to use Melody Assistant to convert it into an MIDI.  However, the file won't load.
The FAQ clearly states that it is possible to open such a file using this program(Please note however that Harmony Assistant imports directly Finale® and MusicTime®  ".mus" files.)
Is there something that I am missing here?

Are you using to File > Open to decode it? You should rather try File > Import > Finale.

Export in MusicXML from Finale, then import with Melody.

What version of Finale?
 
HA and MA can't open files created in a version of Finale newer than the version of HA/MA you're using.
