Is there any way to make HA automatically avoid collisions (overlap) between two notes of different voices on the same staff. These collisions happen when the 2 notes are in unison, a semitone apart, or a whole tone apart. It is possible to drag one of the notes sideways manually, but this is tedious, and it gets lost any time the format is reset.
I would appreciate knowing if anyone has solved this difficulty.
Hello Tremolo, Sorry, I don't read French. I believe you sent me a ZIP archive and that its contents are for Windows. I have an older G4 Mac. Do you have anything that would work with Mac OS 10.4? Thanks anyway. Derek
I wrote the script Tremolo is speaking about. It is written in Lua (the scripting language used by Harmony Assistant) and so it should work both on MacOS and Windows. As JP pointed out, it is very difficult to fully automate the process because there are so many parameters which vary from one bar to another. From my own experience, I should say that there are not that many colliding notes in a score. The problem is that you still miss out some of them when editing the score. So, the script is meant to highlight the colliding notes and help you shift them without having to edit each of them. The help page should also work in English. Basically, you launch the script and choose the set of merged staves you want to analyze (dropdown list at the top left) The colliding notes are set to red by default. In the second dropdown list (top right) you choose each note to be processed (the bar and notepitch are shown). The position on the score will be set so that the note is visible. I advise to zoom in by using the knob (on the left) Then, you shift the notehead with the second knob and see the result on the screen. You can also enter a value for more precision (input box under the knob) It may happen that the notehead (voice 2) shift reaches 100 % and the note is still colliding. Then, you change the voice to be tampered (radio button in the middle of the window) and choose V. 1. Once you have finished with the colliding notes, all you have to repaint them. Select the whole score and Edit>Appearance>General + set the note color (top right of the window) I attach a screen copy. I hope this will help.
