More styles!

I like Harmony Assistant very much. But a lot of more useful ready-made styles would be needed. Some current styles are good, but some are awful. I often have just the melody and then I will try it with different styles to find a good combination. That is a good way to find a direction for further development on the melody. A lot more different styles would help. Especially I have missed TANGO styles and then styles for WALTZ (Slow Waltz, Standard Waltz, Wiener Waltz and Paris Waltz).

Maybe a competition for new styles could provide us with a larger selection for ready-made styles?

I made the same request recently, some responses might find interesting:

Je suis d'accord avec cette demande. L'idée d'un concours est intéressante, cela pourrait pousser à les communiquer ceux qui ont des trésors dans leur répertoire d'accompagnements...

Hi guys,

I agree there is a very limited styles in HA. I have a set of Yamaha styles files that I imported first in HA. Then I export them out as  models which allow me later one use as new templates for future scores.

I am not sure if it's copyrighted or not if I post it here. But if you want them just PM me.

The only thing I found doing the import and export is really time consuming as you can only do one by one. But after you got them done , you have more choices.

Cheers,

I have found thousands of styles which work fine with HA at
http://psrtutorial.com/sty/index.html

Now I wonder whether it would be possible somehow to import them to be used via 'Edit chord grid' and the 'Change style'-button.

If it is currently impossible then I suggest that Myriad people would add a new feature in the coming versions for the free import of new styles (thus greatly expanding the styles available).

The only painfull way to import the styles I am doing now is:
1. File/Import/Band in a Box...(*.sty)
2. File/Export/Harmony-Melody Model
3. insert a Style into a score via
Score/Apply/Change Style... then select the exported model.

Like you said if we can have all these steps done in one step, that would save me heaps of time. That will also allow me to test different styles faster for my scores.

I have now installed more than 500 styles...

I am using Windows Vista. The new styles work fine in the Windows user area I was using when uploading them.

However the new styles are not available through the other user areas (unlike the ones which came with the software; they do work through any Windows user area).

Any suggestions how to make the new styles work like the ones which came with the software?

Hello,

In the window "Style edit", you can create your own sequence (eg copy / paste one of your 500 styles).

Then you click on the button "<==" to add to basic styles.

The style in question will then become part of the list of styles provided with the product. A star remember that it's one of your style.

In HA, I go to the Windows Menu, but there is no "Style Edit".
Could you help?

I look at english version to find the good translation.

Right click on a blank accompaniment line, then 1st line in this menu 'new accompaniment'.

Here, you can edit a new model then click '< = =' to put it in the left list.

Better ?

Thanks GVA, but that is useful only if one wants to set in a new style or to edit an existing style. And it does not make the new styles available through other Windows user areas (in Windows Vista).

But I have found a general solution!

Do as follows:

1. Follow the method described by vbluong above to create
a style as a *.myr  file.

2. The new myr-files are situated in your current Windows user area in the folder (xxxx = the user name)
c://Users/xxxx/Documents/Myriad Documents/Settings/Models/Arrengements/

3. Copy the new myr-files to:
c://Program files/HarmonyBeta/Models/Arrengements/

(Please note that instead of HarmonyBeta directory you may have to use Harmony Assistant directory, if you have not installed the Beta version.)

This way the new myr-files will be available through any Windows user area and they will be part of the software like the original myr-files which came with the software...

Summa summary: It is obvious that any NEW STYLE file in MYR format can be directly added to this program folder giving instant access to the new style... Thus it would be extreamly valuable, if someone would develop a website distributing the new MYR styles nicely formatted in describtive subfolders and ready to be copied directly to this program folder. That would greatly enhance the otherwise splendid Myriad Software.

What about YAMAHA STYLES BATCH IMORT? (Very many at once)
In this case is also important to store imported styles in some other partition (NOT C)

When downloading new styles from http://psrtutorial.com/sty/index.html you will notice that many of the style files are in psr format which is not directly compatible with HA.

You will need to do a file conversion from psr to sty format.
There is a tool for this conversion which can do batch  conversion and at the same time automatically fix some problems between various file systems.

The software is called PSR MidiPlayer by Michael P. Bedesem (current version 8.0). Available free for download at psrtutorial.com site.

The procedure of placing myr-files in the program folder works marvelously, but please be informed that any new HA-program upgrades will remove the myr-files in the program folder. So please, remember to have a copy of your precious myr-files before any new HA-upgrades.
