printing problem

I'm using Harmony Assistant 8.1.3a under Mac OS 8.6, and I've been having problems printing scores. Symbols are sometimes shifted over to the left.

This problem occurs with key signatures:

...and with dots after repetition numbers:

Also, tempo markings sometimes get squished:

These problems apply only to the printouts; the score looks fine on the screen, even in the print preview.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

I don't see your pictures...

Check the "Myriad Music Fonts 4.0" is installed in your system"font" folder. For example, display your score with different scale factors, if the font is  installed, all the displays will be correct.

Check your printer is correctly setup to accept Postcript font.
Try, for example to print some letters in "SToccata" font with a Word processor.

Best regards

(Do the images show up now?)

The font is installed, and most things print correctly. The symbols look fine; they just come out in the wrong place.

If this problem does not appear on your screen, and only on the print-out, is it possible that you are not using the proper, updated printer driver?  You don't say what your printer is.  Have you checked the web site for the printer manufacturer to see if there is an updated driver?

The problem happens both when I print on paper and when I print to a pdf file using Adobe Acrobat.

Sometimes this problem appears with non-Postscript printers such as desktop ink-jet ones. And it can be bound with the screen definition. Have you adjusted the screen resolution ? (Configuration > Global Setup > Screen)

Recalibrating the screen resolution does not seem to have any effect on the printing.

I'm using a postscript printer (a Ricoh Aficio 1045), with the latest version of the printer description and driver. The same problems occur both when I print to the printer and when I print to a ps file.

So did you load the font on your printer ?
When you click "Print" on Mac OS you can choose a dialog box called "Font Parameters" or something like this (I have a french version of this OS). Try to modify some parameters, you can ever revert to default adjustements by a simple click.

I checked the settings, and it's set to "always download needed fonts." I really don't think this looks like a font problem; the symbols themselves print correctly, just in the wrong place on the page.

I'm now running Mac OS 9.2.2, and still having exactly the same problem printing from Harmony Assistant. Any more ideas?

Hi,

Is your Mac OS system "clean" ?
Are you sure you don't have a background utility like a font manager running?

Are you sure your printer driver is up-to-date ?

Did you tried to print with background printing off ?

Best regards

I didn't do a clean install of the new system, but I've looked through my extensions and control panels and such and haven't found any likely sources of conflict. I don't have a font manager installed.

I'm using the latest version of the LaserWriter 8 printer driver from Apple, with the printer descriptions from the printer's manufacturer. I get the same results on all printers I have been able to test, and the problem occurs regardless of whether I print in the foreground or the background.

I hadn't tried that before, but all the symbols are in the right places when I export to a pict or eps file.
