Hi Thanks a lot for your kind words. But it is not so easy to tell here what I have done, so please have a look at the provided example. Its the part of the solo guitar from "Pitoresque views on the southern coast". You find it on "www.myspace.com/lutzstahlhofen". Its the first song on the player. The instrument is the guitar "Distortion GT-SE" from the gold sound base. It is played almost with its standard effect setting. But you can also take guitar "Distortion-G" from the other sound bases. First I have to say that it is very hard to notate a real sounding guitar solo if you dont play guitar yourself. And still then you have to listen quite closely to other guitar lines to analyse how it has to be done. To create a good guitar takes a long, long time. It is not only the composition itself, but the adding of the different effects that take such a long time. Now for the example: For the melody part I doubled the voice with its higher octave. It gives more body to the sound. For the slide at the end of the melody line I used 1/64 notes. Bar 12 to 15 simulate a beginning feedback. The following solo part has a lot of effects on single notes. You should try to edit these notes to see how the effects work. Dont miss the breaks between several notes. Delete them and listen again. There is a big difference. I can not explain it all here. Just fiddle around with the file and if you have any questions please ask me. I hope that others out there find it useful too. Best regards Lutz

Hello Olivier Guillion created MP3 samples of some instruments contained in Gold 2. He created these samples when the database was released. The samples may be found at http://www.myriad-online.com/en/community/gold2.htm Tom Duda

Hello Also, the full list of Gold 2 instruments are available as a link from the Gold 2 soundbase page here at Myrid. The URL is http://www.myriad-online.com/en/products/demogold.htm Again, the link to these MP3 files are available for anyone who is considering purchasing a license for this superb database. The link is positioned prominently on the page that offers the license for purchase. So, no one needs to propose user demos in MP3 audio format. These have been available through the Myriad web site since 2002. Tom Duda

Human Whistling Demo This file is a demo of the GOLD Base whistle sound. Volume and pitch effects have been added to make it sound as realistic as possible. Here is the story of this file: A few days ago, Mr Georges Valentin sent a file to the tech support, in order to let us fix a problem of memory consumption. This file was the score for a nice piece of music he composed, and it included a digital track in which Mr Valentin recorded himself whistling the lead voice. The memory problem was fixed, and when listening to the file, I realized that the recorded whistling part was great, with much expression. I then tried to replace the recorded whistle by a GOLD instrument, then to adjust some effects to make the sound more realistic and human. I used the recorded track as a template and tried to mimic the human effects and imperfections. In fact, I was also studying the possibility of writing a script that would auomatize this "humanization", but that's another story. So here is the result. All instruments (Piano, harp, staccato strings and whistle) are from GOLD Base. Regards,
