I am writing something (The Ramble from Central Park Suite.) and adding effects in a staff. The Ramble is a birder's paradise so of course I am using birds whose pitch can be adjusted by the input note. And they sing, more or less, for the duration of the note. I've also added barks using the dog effect but these are essentially short sounds. I see no sounds that can be used for a more sustained growl in GB 2. Am I missing something? (I'm thinking of a photo in my Central Park pages showing two dogs playing in the Ramble.) My intention is to use all these effects sparingly. I realize this would not work in live performance although Resphigi's Pines of the Janiculum does use a nightingale recording. Probably done differently in modern performances. Any ideas? Also can I randomize where the unsustained barks are placed?

I put one of the dogs samples into the file. (mp3s don't seem to import at present so I converted it to aiff.) I panned them to create an illusion of two groups responding to each other and it works out fine. But here is a question about the birds which, for the present still remains the Gold Base bird sample: Is there any way to pan the sample so it goes throughout the stereo field? In other words, to hear the chirps from all directions? More than one track? Or can you only randomize the pans? I'm not sure that putting the pan in the middle will give this effect and I've never known how to do this.

Hi Eddy Klick the little green arrow on the left side of your score. There you can edit the panind position as well as the volume curve, reverb and others. Just set some points and your birds will fly from left to right and back again. Together with ta volume curve which should be set high in the middle and a little lower when the pan position is left or right you get an very nice effect. Also give a little reverb on the left and right side. Best regards Lutz

| Thanks, Lutz, I'd already edited the panning but not the volume or reverb so I'll try that. It also occurred to me to add Franck's more specific NY State birds in the newly created "doggy" audio track at the same time as the general gb2 birds but haven't tried this yet. Best, Ed
