Problem with templates

Hi,

I love Galerie, but I recently installed "collection 3" templates and am now unable to use any templates at all.  Galerie starts up and works fine, but when I try to select a template I get:

After which Galerie starts to become unstable and even crashes!  Everything is installed in the default location and I have run this version (3.2) of Galerie on this machine before, so I'm not sure what I did wrong.  I have tried erasing all galerie files (including the plist, crash report) and doing a complete reinstall with just the default files and templates but I still get the same error.  Running 10.3.2.
Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me regarding this problem.

Hi,

Another user had this problems, and solved it.

Here is his message :
"I think I found the cause of the problem with the Templates folder.  I
tried copying the Galerie Templates folder to the Documents folder of
another user account on my Mac.  When I launched the Galerie
application from that other user account, it found all of the templates
with no problem.  The primary difference between the 2 user accounts is
that my account was configured with Security enabled from File Vault
and the other account did not enable Security.  When File Vault is
enabled, it encrypts all of the files in my account.  I think the
encryption was blocking Galerie from seeing the Template files."
So check if File Vault is enabled.

Best regards

Is there any way I can manually change the permissions, I don't have another user account on my mac, nor do I want one.  I checked the get "get info" for the galerie templates folder and its contents and I it says I am able to read/write.  hmmm... d**n File Vault.

If anyone has any ideas I am open to suggestions, otherwise, I guess its a new user.

Hi,

I don't think this is a permission problem but a File Vault problem.
Is File Vault enabled on your current account ?

I'm getting exactly the same problem.  I'm running 10.3 on a pretty new Powerbook.  File Vault is not turned on and never has been.  I tried repairing the disk permissions with Disk Utility but that did not help.

Hi,

Check you have the access right on the "template folder".
Try to move the "template folder" outside the user's area to be sure.

I get this AppleScript error when the templates folder was used in one location and then moved to another location. Choosing the new path to the templates folder in preferences, templates tab, solves the issue.

Maybe re-establishing the path to the templates folder will also resolve the problem when the templates folder was not moved.

Yes, file vault is enabled on my home directory.  Moving the templates to my shared folder has eliminated the problem temporarily (hopefully not permanently).  However, this is a less than ideal solution (for me at least).  Turning off file vault is not an option, I like what it does (aside from this).

To Mr. Regensberg:

Re-establishing the paths did not yield any change in the initial error.  This was naturally the first thing I tried, as well as changing paths.  Deleting everything associated with Galerie including prefs etc and re-installing (clean) also did not solve the problem for me.

I 'll try to find a way to test File Vault, but I ought to find a computer where I dont have important data : I don't trust in this kind of system...

Hi,

I created a temporary user with FileVault active.
All AppleScript standard Finder commands don't work on this user's area.
As I can't found any reference on this in the Apple documentation, I asked the question to the Apple Support to know if it is an already reported problem or if there is a special command to send.

Waiting now the Apple's answer.

Hi,

I made some searches on the Internet and it appear the FileVault problem is a referenced Apple problem (ID#3519695)

See for example :

So far resetting the path in the preferences is working for me.  Will report back if the link breaks again.  Thanks!
