Singer on strike

One of the singers in my piece has gone silent. When the other 3 voices are harmonising along, he stays silent and a flashing red arrow points down on him from above. He's been happily singing up until now but without resorting to restarting HA, I'd like to sort out why he's suddenly gone quiet on me.

He's happy if we start at the beginning or even if I set the play mark to start at any of the 1st 4 repeats but if I try to start at the beginning of repeat 5 or anytime after that, he sulks and won't join in. BTW I did restart HA and it's made no difference.

Hmmm ! Difficult to guess without the file. Isn't there anything different in the way the syllables are set in the 5th repeat ?

This is not the solution, but just an observation.
I set the play mark at bar #24, 4th repeat, expecting to get the last bar of verse #4 + the 5th verse and then the coda. (Not) surprisingly, the tenor was silent throughout.
So, I edited the voice from VS window. I used the stop/play button and I heard the voice. So, I okayed the box and once back in the main window, I launched the play again (space bar) :  everything palyed and sung all right !
Alas, the miracle was short lived. I set the mark to another bar, still with repeat #4, and it all went wrong. I edited the singer, and... etc.
As I said, it is not the solution, but it may be useful to help Myriad prople trace the issue. I think I'm going to send them an e-mail describing the whole thing.

Bonsoir

OK. Thanks for that. I haven't tested it yet but I will, asap.
It's strange that it should have that effect and I've had it happen on other songs since then.
Perhaps, without the line breaks, the singer just runs out of breath

Some observation, no conclusion (yet)

I have the problem when I ask for playing from repeat 4 measure 7, or later. Putting a CR after the lyrics of bar 7, the problem starts when asking a start at bar 8 or later.

The detail of next may depend of user's screen size. My screen (page mode off) shows on line 4, bar 7, text overlap between "proud" and "woun-". Once I had the silence starting exactly after "proud" (i.e. at the overlap).

When I enlarge the measure, the overlap "moves" later on and apparently the problem will start only when requesting play from that bar on...

Will continue investigating along these lines, also on another score I'm currently working with and which also présents overlaps.

It might be interesting to see if the engraver's mode can be useful. I suggest this :
Score>Engraver's mode setup : choose the "defautl comfortable" option, making sure that both boxes are checked (compute best bar width + enhanced mode)

Engraver mode all set up as suggested but still no change.
By working backwards and setting the reset play mark each time I found that set at Bar 10 on the 4th repeat, there was no problem. Trying to start from Bar 11 reproduced the silent treatment so I looked at the lyrics and saw that there was no space between the last character and the Bar end hyphen.
I put in a space and it worked...... but only briefly. The error was moved further on but then became intermittent. Sometimes it would only be silent for a few bars, at other times it would be permanent.

If you were to edit the lyrics, selecting all (Ctrl-A) and set the font to (say) 16pt or 24pt. Arial, it becomes much more obvious that there are several warning chevrons (=spacing errors) (e.g Comrades ^, But^as yet)).

Try correcting these, then reduce back to 12pt.

By the way, I think the enunciation sounds better if you select all the notes (Ctrl-A), blanket-change them all to a "Pressure-time" of 95% (Edit > Apply Changes > Play).  Then individually select notes preceding a hyphen and restore them to 100%.

This seems to give the time necessary to limit hissing at the beginning of words.
