VS is silent!

I have just bought Harmony Assistant with Virtual Singer. Everything was fine until I started experimenting with different sounds, e.g. using MIDI outlets for various instruments. But now when I play pieces with voices, e.g. the demos, the accompaniment sounds but Virtual Singer does not. I have checked to see that its output is Digital but this does not work. Have you any suggestions please?

Is the melody you want to be sung by VS played by an instrument ? When you open the VS palette, is the little top-left led red or green ? If red, click on the bird to activate VS.

No, the line is for voice, (digital) and the led is green. No matter which piece I import, including demos that came with the program, VS is silent.

On the VS palette the singer is active (not purple). I tried deactivating her and I heard a flute-like sound perform her line. Activating again produced silence.

Are you sure you are using digital output to play instruments, not MIDI ?

| When you edit the instrument of your staff, do you see "MIDI 1" (or 2 or 3) on the top-left just under instrument name?

Weird things are happening. I import a new MIDI file consisting of 4-part choir and organ. The program asks me which parts to allocate to text and I indicate this. I start Play and see a progress meter computing voices. But I hear only the organ. I examine file associations and see to my surprise that everything is MIDI 1. I change them all to Digital and play again. This time I hear nothing! Is it time to reinstall Harmony Assistant?

Hi, If you use the latest version, installing again will do strictly nothing. (I don't understand this reflex of Windows user to reinstall when they have a problem...) What are you calling "file association" ? What happen when you play a .mus file (not midi), for example a demo document provided with the program ? Check your digital output level in your system setup. Check the sound card driver you selected in HA hardware setup. Best regards

Well, I would have thought reinstalling would give me the program in the state when I first had it, which was perfect! However .... By File association, I meant Instrument relate to output device. Sorry. I have checked through your last list of suggestions and have found the problem. I have two sound cards on my computer and must have tried using the second one and forgotten this. Putting it back to the main one has solved the problem. Thanks to everybody who tried to help. It was purely my fault - a memory problem, fairly common these days as today is my 82nd birthday! Best wishes
