popup and pages creation

When I check the popup box, it seems that 'page template' is suppressed, and the javascript code is used to open up the image file in its own window.

I want to have the popup open up a web page, rather than just the image because I want to have navigation buttons on the popup page to go forward, backward and back to the index instead of having to close the  popup and select another picture from the index page.

I can do this if I was able to have both the "openwindowlink" function created with every index image, *and* being able to specify the creation of a web page as an option box. If that option box is checked, then the openwindowlink function can specify a web page instead of the image file.

How do I do this in Galerie? Is there a simpler way?

Hi,

The only way I see is to create your own template which include the Javascript code doing the job.

With Galerie you have a manual explaining how to create your own templates.

Best regards

Hello Didier,
I did read the manual! In it it says:
"- Optionally a text file named "javascriptpopupwindow.txt", containing JavaScript source code that will replace the default popup window JavaScript that is inserted in the index page when the "popup window" mode is active"

However, the creation of HTML pages is *stopped* if popup is clicked and the following is added in the index page:

<a href="javascript: openwindowlink('mediafiles/l1.jpg',...);"><img src="thumbnails/s1.jpg"></a>

I know I can write my own openwindowlink code, but I want it to open an html web page, not just the jpg image.

For an example of what I'm after, click here:

Is this possible in Galerie?

Hi,

Your request is very close to the existing Web Browser feature :
for example in Safari Ctrl+Click and select "open in a new window".

Am I right ?

Best regards

I suppose it is in a way.

My main objective is to have a popup open, with navigation options so you don't have to close the popup and go back to the index page.

So is this possible using Galerie?

Hello "syd",

Being involved with the development of Galerie as beta-tester, also helping with html issues, and providing several templates, I have been wondering what exactly is your request.

The popup window such as it is implemented in Galerie cannot have navigation as all needed information is in the index page. Once in the popup window there is no way of finding other pictures or QuickTime movies. It may be possible to have the media pages open in a new window and navigation there would be possible just like when the pages would open in the existing window with the index page.

I made an example of a simple gallery with 'Shadow' template:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~ronaldpr/boottochtje1/

and the same gallery modified to open the pages in a new window:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~ronaldpr/boottochtje2/

I suppose the second example is close to what you are asking for, and if the page template would be edited to show only previous and next buttons, the effect would be very much like the example you gave. However, I find it difficult to understand why you would prefer viewing and navigating the pages in a new window. To me it is not really different from viewing and navigating the pages in the existing window. Please explain.

BTW, manually modifying the index pages to have the pages open in a new window is simple, compare the source in both examples.

Hi Ron, I think I misunderstood your post. While it's 'easy' to manually edit the index page so that the media page opens in a new window - is there a way to do this automatically in Galerie? If the popup mode is selected, Galerie stops generating the media pages and puts the following in the index array:
"javascript: openwindowlink('mediafiles/"

It would be great if in the settings page you could specify whether media pages should be generated, and if ues, the javascript is written as:
javascript: openwindowlink('pages/page_...

What do you think?

Syd,

No, Galerie cannot generate index pages that will open the picture pages in a new window. At present the only way to do that is by manually editing the index pages. The popup option only works with scripts derived from the provided "javascriptpopupwindow.txt".

In the example that I showed, in a 'normal' (with no popup setting) index page I added in the 'head' of te page the script:

<SCRIPT TYPE="text/javascript" LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!--
function NewWindow(URL) {
window.open(URL, "new", "top=0,width=700,height=700,menubar=no,toolbar=no,location=no,status=no, scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes");
}
//-->
</SCRIPT>

(The properties of the new window must be in one line without spaces.)

and I replaced
<a href="pages/page_1.html">
by
<a href="pages/page_1.html" target="new" onclick="NewWindow('pages/page_1.html'); return false;">

and

<a href="pages/page_2.html">
by
<a href="pages/page_2.html" target="new" onclick="NewWindow('pages/page_2.html'); return false;">

etc.

The feature could be added to Galerie in the future if more people ask for it, but it has no priority at this time.

Another way of making Galerie generate galleries that are suitable for smaller screens is editing page templates to fit better in a small screen and to choose a smaller size for the pictures.
