German: S Consonant disappearing...

I have a score in German with several occurrences of the word "Sieg" (no, it's not "Sieg Heil"...). The initial S isn't heard at all, and sometimes I'm hearing "Lieg" or "Nieg". The expected sound is sampa [#z] just as in "sein", "sohn", "sonne" "singt", which all sound right. The Sampa translation of the word is [#zi:k] which should be OK, though I would have preferred [#zi:g] I have no real occurrence of an "s" followed by a long "i". I have checked with "sie" but that word gives another problem. How should I tackle this problem?

I have no experience of writing German (and notice that there is not even a list of German SAMPA sounds in the Help), but if I write a one-word score with "Sieg", it sounds correct. Your problem may be contextual (caused by what comes before). I have had English words that sounded blatantly incorrect and had to be manipulated. [You could try (tssieg) for example] Ensure that the note before Sieg ends in plenty of time, by having a pressure time < 100%

Thanks, Tony, for your comments. I have the problem when "Sieg" is the first word in the score (first note) - not only when I isolated it artificially to make a test case, but also with a brand new test file. "Tssieg" would not do it, there is no heading "t" consonant - an English equivalent would be written "zeeg" or so. Indeed, the HA manual does not show a German table, but that's just for information. I have a document which gives German examples, and it's also not too difficult to translate to Sampa the IPA pronunciation I find in my dictionary. As I bypass, I use "Sieg[#zzi:g]" but that needs to be done for every occurrence in every voice. I would wish to be able to have my own dictionary (or rules) override file.
